n. 1 the Jewish spring festival commemorating the liberation of the Israelites from Egyptian bondage, held from the 14th to the 21st day of the seventh month of the Jewish year. 2 = paschal lamb. Etymology: pass over = pass without touching, with ref. to the exemption of the Israelites from the death of the first-born (Exod. 12)
