n. 1 a spontaneous abortion, esp. before the 28th week of pregnancy. 2 Brit. the failure (of a plan, letter, etc.) to reach completion or its destination. Phrases and idioms miscarriage of justice any failure of the judicial system to attain the ends of justice. Etymology: MISCARRY, after CARRIAGE MISCARRY v.intr. (-ies, -ied) 1 (of a woman) have a miscarriage. 2 Brit. (of a letter etc.) fail to reach its destination. 3 (of a business, plan, etc.) fail, be unsuccessful.
