v. & n. coarse sl. --v.intr. 1 emit wind from the anus. 2 (foll. by about, around) behave foolishly; waste time. --n. 1 an emission of wind from the anus. 2 an unpleasant person. Usage Usually considered a taboo word. Etymology: OE (recorded in feorting verbal noun) f. Gmc FARTHER var. of FURTHER (esp. with ref. to physical distance).
