Narc

narc
- 1967, shortened form of narcotics agent (earlier narco). Had been used 1955 for narcotics hospital, 1958 for narcotics addict. Slang nark "police informer" is a different word (though the senses and spellings tend to merge), first recorded 1860, probably from Romany nak "nose."
