~1 conjunction 1 used to introduce a statement that makes the other main statement seem surprising or unlikely  (Though he was only twelve he could run faster than any kid in the school. | though old/tired etc)  (His childhood, though poverty stricken, had been a happy one. | old though it is/tired though he was etc)  (Odd though it may seem, I actually like housework.) 2 used to add a fact or opinion which makes what you have just said seem less serious, less important etc  (These samosas are great, though there's not much meat in them. | The offenders were dealt with firmly though fairly.) 3 as though as if  (The lights were on and cigarettes still burned in the ashtray, as though everyone had left in a hurry.)  (- see also although, even though even1 (6)) ~2 adv sentence adverb especially spoken used at the end of a clause (2) to add a fact or opinion which makes what you have just said seem less important, or to add a very different fact or opinion etc  (Yeah, a Rolex for -150 is a great bargain. Is it real though? | Two heart attacks in a year. It hasn't stopped him smoking though.)
