- 1483, from M.Fr. facile "easy," from L. facilis "easy to do" and, of persons, "pliant, courteous," from facere "to do." Facility is early 15c., from M.Fr. facilitй, from L. facilitatem, from facilis "easy." Its sense in Eng. moved from "genteelness" (c.1425) to "opportunity" (1519), to "aptitude, ease" (1532).
