(snipped, snipping) (also absol.) cut (cloth, a hole, etc.) with scissors or shears, esp. in small quick strokes. --n. 1 an act of snipping. 2 a piece of material etc. snipped off. 3 sl. a something easily achieved. b Brit. a bargain; something cheaply acquired. 4 (in pl.) hand-shears for metal cutting. Phrases and idioms snip at make snipping strokes at. Derivatives snipping n. Etymology: LG & Du. snippen imit.
