Rim

rim
n. & v. --n. 1 a a raised edge or border. b a margin or verge, esp. of something circular. 2 the part of a pair of spectacles surrounding the lenses. 3 the outer edge of a wheel, on which the tyre is fitted. 4 a boundary line (the rim of the horizon). --v.tr. (rimmed, rimming) 1 a provide with a rim. b be a rim for or to. 2 edge, border. Phrases and idioms rim-brake a brake acting on the rim of a wheel. Derivatives rimless adj. rimmed adj. (also in comb.). Etymology: OE rima edge: cf. ON rimi ridge (the only known cognate)
